Securities Law Fellowship Course
The Institute of Law Clerks of Ontario (“ILCO”), is offering the Securities Law Fellowship course from its office in Toronto, via webinar. This course will instruct students on Ontario securities law concepts and help them apply those concepts to the various forms and documents involved in securities transactions. The course covers the concepts of securities law and focuses on standard securities transactions including: public offerings, exempt offerings, continuous disclosure, SEDAR and SEDI registration, and take-over bids. By the end of the course a student should be familiar with the structure of standard securities law transactions and be able to identify and complete a number of documents and forms.
The ILCO Securities Fellowship Course instructor is Michelle Vaillancourt, who has practiced as senior litigation counsel with the Ontario Securities Commission since November 2007. Ms. Vaillancourt was called to the bar of Ontario in 1995 and the bar of Alberta in 2007. Prior to joining the Commission, Ms. Vaillancourt was a partner at Heenan Blaikie LLP in the litigation department. She has appeared before all levels of court in Ontario, the Supreme Court of Canada and before the Alberta Court of Queen’s Bench.
During her time at the Commission, Ms. Vaillancourt has been involved in a wide variety of enforcement files involving Ontario securities law. Ms. Vaillancourt has completed the Canadian Securities Course and the Derivatives Course offered by CSI Global Education Inc., and has attended a number of securities law conferences in Ontario and in the U.S. ILCO members have had the pleasure of Ms. Vaillancourt teaching the ILCO securities fellowship course last year.
A corporate law background is highly recommended for this course.
Students will be evaluated on the basis of one final examination to be written on April 29, 2013.
